Golf in Sri Lanka
A route traced by the English at 1,900 meters, in the middle of tea plantations. Nobody knows it exists, and that's a good thing.

Sri Lanka is not a golf destination, and that is precisely what makes it interesting. There are three courses in the country. We don't book six months in advance, and we often play almost alone.
The three
What separates them
The Royal Colombo Golf Club dates from 1879 and is located in the city: a flat, historic course, with a train line crossing the fairway. It's confusing the first time, then you get used to it.
The Victoria Golf & Country Resort, near Kandy, is the most beautiful of the three: designed on the edge of a lake, regularly cited among the best in Asia. This is one that a golfer would make the trip for.
And the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, opened in 1889 at an altitude of 1,900 meters, is played among the tea trees, in a mist that rises in the afternoon. It's absurd and it's magnificent.
The season
When to play
All year round in Colombo, where it is simply warm. At altitude, in Nuwara Eliya and Victoria, the clear season is from January to April: the rest of the time the mist rises in the early afternoon, which has its charm but shortens the days.
