Your travel month shapes the route. From December to February, the South and West are generally the most natural choices. From May to September, the East, North and dry zones usually take over. March and April, then October and November, call for a more flexible itinerary, not a journey to avoid on principle.

Weather also changes with altitude, coast and the activities you have in mind. We therefore begin with your dates, then choose the regions and beach that matter most to you.

In 10 days, three compatible regions work very well: culture, the Highlands and one coast. In 12 days, a fourth region or more nights in each place gives the route more breathing room. In 15 days, you can genuinely slow down or add another stop.

The island looks small on a map, but transfers are part of the journey. A good itinerary protects the nights that matter instead of adding a new stop every day.

For an itinerary linking several regions, a car with a driver makes transfers, luggage and the pace of travel far simpler. It is less useful for a slow stay in one town or on one beach.

Always ask what is included: vehicle, insurance, fuel, road costs, spoken language and any local guides. A driver, driver-guide and local guide do not play exactly the same role.

Travel conditions evolve. Consult your government's official travel advice before departure and follow local instructions during your stay.

On the ground, the most common points to watch are traffic, sea currents, heat and mosquitoes. Good insurance and a realistic itinerary remain the best precautions.

The budget depends on the month, number of travellers, duration, flights, hotels and experiences chosen. Two tours of the same length can look very different depending on what is included in the price.

When comparing proposals, look at nights and meals, car and driver, entry fees, safaris, local guides, taxes and possible supplements. A serious quote always separates what is included, optional and still at your expense.

It is geographically possible, but rarely the best option when the beach is a priority. Sea conditions change with the season and coast. We choose the shoreline that best suits your dates, then shape the rest of the route around it.

During the shoulder seasons, a more flexible route that relies less on sea activities can be beautiful. The weather closer to departure then helps us refine the final details.

For French passport holders, an ETA, Sri Lanka's electronic travel authorisation, must be obtained before departure. As of 19 July 2026, it is free for a 30-day tourist stay but remains compulsory. Rules can change, so check the official portal before booking.

Your passport must remain valid for at least six months after entry. Keep your ETA, return or onward ticket and the documents useful for your stay.
